Clean Feeders = Happy Birds
Cleaning your feeders is one of the best habits you can get into for the birds. Not only is it important for ensuring that the birds don't become sick, it will also benefit you as clean feeders often means more birds will come to visit.
We like to think of bird feeders like restaurants; you always want to think of preparing food so that guests will keep coming back.
Before you get started make sure you have the following:
- Gloves
- Tubs/Containers - or- a laundry tub works well
- Dish Soap
- Tube Feeder Brush
- Scrub Brush
- Rag
- Bleach – regular household bleach - or - White Vinegar
- Measuring Cup
When cleaning your Feeder, rinse well after cleaning, then let your feeder rest in a solution of 9 parts hot water to 1 part white vinegar for 10 minutes. Rinse well again and let completely dry before filling with fresh seed. Vinegar is an alternative to using bleach.
Follow along with the video below! In just a few simple steps your feeders will be clean and you can go back to doing what you love - enjoying the birds!
