How to Choose the Best Nest Box for Your Birds

What could be more rewarding than having a bird choose your backyard to raise their young?  

Providing bird houses in your backyard encourages birds that are already feeding from your feeders to raise a family right where you can watch making their nests, feeding the hatchlings, and watching the young to learn to fly.

 

There are different specifications for each bird species that will use a bird house. The size of the box and the size of the entrance hole will determine which bird the box is designed for. A good functional bird house should meet these six requirments.

  • Drainage holes in the bottom of the house.
  • Ventilation holes to provide the release of heat

Roosting Box / Nesting Box

Made locally in Kitchener, This winter Rooting Box can be easily converted into a bird house with a few modifications. It is built with a ladder inside for more than one bird to roost on; Chickadees are among the backyard birds that will roost communally to stay even warmer. The front panel comes off and can be flipped around to become a nesting box in the spring.
